The Story of Gulizar and Suvade, Who Came to Our Hospital from Crimea for a Cross Liver Transplant:
Let's look together at how the treatment process of Gulizar and her mother Suvade, who came to our hospital from Crimea for a cross liver transplant, was carried out successfully through HTURK Health Tourism.
Gulizar's Condition: Gulizar (21) had been struggling with liver disease for 17 years. At every hospital they went to, no diagnosis could be made and no treatment could be applied. At a hospital in Moscow, Gulizar was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis and was told she needed a transplant. However, her mother Suvade (41) was unable to be a compatible donor for her daughter. There was also no suitable donor for Gulizar in the family.
Contact with HTURK Health Tourism: Mother and daughter first applied to a private hospital in Istanbul and waited 4 years in the hope of treatment. Then they contacted us through an acquaintance. We explained that, thanks to the Cross Liver Transplant System available at our hospital, a suitable donor could be found for Gulizar. By providing information about this system, we offered Gulizar and her mother Suvade the opportunity to find a suitable donor.
A New Hope with Cross Liver Transplant: Although Gulizar had no suitable donor, she came immediately with her mother Suvade to Malatya Turgut Özal Medical Center, İnönü University Liver Transplant Institute, and joined the Cross Liver Transplant System. Thanks to this system, they gained the chance to find a compatible donor for Gulizar from the donor pool.
The Operation: Suvade became a donor for another liver patient, and Gulizar received a liver from a compatible donor. This process was called a Seven-Way Cross Liver Transplant and was performed for only the second time in the world at our hospital.
The operation was carried out successfully with 14 operating rooms and 120 healthcare staff (including 50 surgeons). 7 patients and 7 donors were matched among themselves and each became a hope of life.
