İnönü University Liver Transplant Institute Breaks a First Again
İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Liver Transplant Institute, which has previously entered the medical literature with 3-, 4- and 5-cross liver transplants, continues to maintain its success with 6-cross liver transplantation.
İnönü University Liver Transplant Institute Director Prof. Dr. Sezai Yılmaz made evaluations to INUHABER about the 6-cross transplant, which was performed for the first time in the world.
Sharing the details of the success of 6-way liver transplantation, Prof. Dr. Sezai Yılmaz said, "We have now performed a 6-cross liver transplant. There are 12 operating rooms, 6 recipients and 6 donors, and the capacity of our liver transplantation institute is 12 operating rooms. It has 36 intensive care units. It has 116 patient beds. During the transplantation, our hospital worked at full capacity. This operation was performed with over 100 people. Our friends from the surgeon and anesthesia, our intensive care friends, nurses, technicians, everyone was standing. At 08.00 in the morning, everyone was standing. "I think all the operations were completed without any problems around 20:00 in the evening. The condition of our patients is quite good. All of them are still in intensive care. The general condition of the recipients is also good." he said.
Reminding that they have successfully performed triple, quadruple and quintile cross liver transplants before, Prof. Dr. Sezai Yılmaz said that they are now happy to perform a 6-cross transplant.
Stating that articles on 5- and 6-cross liver transplants will be published, Sezai Yılmaz said, "We have previously shared quadruple-cross liver transplantation with the world medical literature. The article was published in a very reputable journal. Now, we are preparing articles on both 5- and 6-cross liver transplants in a reputable medical journal. It will be published here. It is currently in the evaluation phase and I think it will enter the medical literature in the coming days.
