The 101st pediatric bone marrow transplant successfully performed in Malatya
The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit of Turgut Özal Medical Center performed its 101st successful transplant. At the event, transplanted children and their families came together.
Turgut Özal Medical Center, one of Malatya's most important healthcare centers, continues to be a critical health hub for patients from both Türkiye and abroad. The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, established within the center in 2017, is one of the most important healthcare centers in the region.
Prof. Dr. Arzu Akyay, head of the unit, said bone marrow transplantation is not just a medical procedure but also means holding on to life again for patients, adding: "Although we performed our 101st transplant today, our goal is to save more lives and make the process even better."
She said they have performed more than 1,800 bone marrow transplants in the Adult Hematology Department, reached 3,900 in liver transplantation, and 101 in pediatric bone marrow transplantation.
In adult bone marrow transplantation, Turgut Özal Medical Center, the center that has performed the most bone marrow transplants in the last 5 years, has now become a source of hope for 101 families.
